Hello,

Services across multiple sectors were affected worldwide today due to a technical problem at the US tech giant Microsoft and American cyber security company Crowdstrike.

Microsoft said the preliminary root cause was a "configuration change" in a portion of its Azure backend workloads. It caused interruption between storage and compute resources which resulted in connectivity failures that affected downstream Microsoft 365 services dependent on these connections, the company said.

This outage has affected airlines, banks, supermarkets, media outlets, and other businesses.

  • Well, I guess IT people around the world aren’t getting any sleep tonight. This is the biggest system outage in history and not something they can just push a fix for.

Just to be clear this was not Microsoft who rolled out a bad change, but Cloudstrike which is a security provider.

This only hit companies that run that specific piece of software from Cloudstrike. Unfortunately, that is used by thousands of companies on millions of computers.

But Microsoft is still responsible because of they have to implement methods to avoid such type of incidents.
