Hello,

If you own a medium-sized company, which type of dedicated server would you prefer, managed or unmanaged?

Security is a real concern here. If you're thinking to buy unmanaged server then It is your responsibility to keep your website updated and secure. you are also responsible for installing and maintaining the webserver software requires to run your website.

If you buy a managed server then all the server related services managed by the service provider and you can focus on your business as said in the previous reply.

Yes, but a managed server is more expensive than a non-managed one. Is there an average solution?

Some may offer a semi-managed service where they only handle certain parts of the management or limit the number of tickets you can submit per a month.

If you have installed a few software in past and can devote a few hours to your unmanaged server then their is no much difference in managed and unmanaged servers. You can search and make a list of software that are required for security, server status check, and data management. You will need to install 3 to 5 tools on your server and it becomes even better than managed one. Don't forget to set auto backup of your data at different server/PC. Set login attempt failure limit and it more secure than managed one.

Managed server is the best even though is pricey but it will give you access to whole suite of support.

Well if you have enough budget but you are a small medium or larger business it doesn't matter should always go for Managed Hosting due to its reliability security and efficiency because you don't know when your website starts to gain more traffic. Yes managed hosting is relatively expensive but it provides full control of the server to its customers which makes it the best option for your hosting needs
