Hi all,
I received an email from AWS India this morning. It states that AWS India will become the AWS service provider on 1 November 2024, and now Indian users can pay in INR.
We are sending this email to inform you that, based on the logic used by AWS for determining account location, your account is determined to be based in India. On November 1, 2024, your existing service provider, Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS, Inc.), will be replaced with Amazon Web Services India Private Limited (AWS India), and you will begin transacting with AWS India. If you would like to continue transacting with your existing service provider, AWS, Inc., please take the following steps:
a) Update your billing information to a US-based address
b) Remove India tax information from your account.
To prepare for transacting with AWS India, please note the following items:
Actions required from your end
Payments: After your account moves to AWS India, you will be required to re-add your default card payment method so that it can be saved to your account per the Payment Aggregators and Payment Gateway (PAPG) guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and be eligible to pay for AWS India invoices. Additionally, autopay will only be available for AWS India invoices below INR 15,000, provided you set up eMandate. For all AWS India invoices above INR 15,000 and non-AWS India invoices, you will need to complete payments from the Payments tab. Any existing card(s) saved on file before your account moves to AWS India can only be used to make payments for non-AWS India and AWS Marketplace invoices.
Tax Settings: Please review your tax settings to ensure you receive correct Goods and Service Tax (GST) compliant tax invoices. If you have an AWS Organization, consider enabling the tax inheritance settings on your management account so that all your member accounts have the same tax information.
Purchase orders (POs): If you have any existing POs, make sure they include AWS India as an additional service provider so that the POs can continue to be tagged to the invoices coming from AWS India.
Notifying business teams: Please actively communicate the above change to all functional partners of your organization, including, but not limited to, accounting, tax, treasury, and accounts payable teams.
Notifying member accounts: If you have member (linked) accounts in your AWS Organization that are also based in India and are being serviced by AWS Inc., please ensure the member accounts are notified about this change.
Agreements: AWS India will become the AWS service provider for this account. Your continued use of AWS services will constitute acceptance of this change. Depending on the type and terms of the agreement(s) governing your AWS services, you may or may not need to update the agreement(s) to include AWS India as an additional service provider.
What will remain unchanged?
Access and workloads: There will be no downtime, service interruption, or changes to your existing workloads. Your account number(s), content configurations, access rights, and security settings will remain the same.
Pricing: There will be no change in the pricing of services.
What will change
Invoices: You will start receiving invoices (both commercial and GST-compliant tax invoices) for services from AWS India.
Tax calculation: AWS India will collect 18% GST on your services, regardless of whether you are an individual or a business. You must pay the invoice amount along with GST to AWS India.
Currency: You must pay in Indian Rupee (INR), the only accepted payment currency in AWS India. Your preferred currency setting will automatically be updated to reflect INR. You will continue to receive any non-AWS India invoices in the default currency of that service provider.
Console: Billing Console, Payments Console, PO Console, and Tax Console will display AWS India as the service provider.
Budgets: If you use the Invoicing Entity or the Legal Entity filter, please choose both AWS, Inc. and AWS India to visualize accurate comparisons of your actual cost data versus budgeted data.
Cost Explorer: If you use the legal entity filter, please choose both AWS, Inc. and AWS India to visualize accurate cost and usage data. If you use the Cost Explorer API, please modify your internal processes to account for these changes.
Cost and Usage Report (CUR): If you use CUR, please modify your internal processes to account for these changes.
