I'm excited about the idea of setting up a personal portfolio website! While I've noticed that IONOS has a somewhat mixed reputation, they do offer some fantastic deals. Since this is just for my personal use, I don't need anything too complex.

Are there any important details I should be aware of? I'm particularly curious about whether I need to be cautious of web hosts claiming ownership of the content I store on their servers.

  • Most reputable web hosting services do not own your content. Therefore, it's crucial to review the Terms of Service thoroughly. Some unreliable or dishonest hosts may have undisclosed policies that permit them to share your content in certain ways, use it for their advertising purposes, or prevent us from taking legal action if they misuse the content.

It's true that your website will be hosted on the platform of your hosting provider, but it doesn't mean that they will steal your content without your knowledge. Most hosting providers don't care about your website codes or content, until it's against their terms.

  • Most hosts don’t claim ownership of your content - that’d be a huge red flag. Standard ToS usually say you keep ownership, but they reserve the right to remove content that breaks rules or if you’re doing something illegal.
